This photo is Thomas at his first visit to the mobile dental clinic. Thomas lives in an assisted living facility. He does have a brother who transported him to the clinics and for his dentures, he is divorced with no children.
Thomas first looked to the Senior Charity Care Foundation because he hadn’t seen a dentist for a while. Unfortunately, this is the case for many seniors we serve as dental care is a very expensive part of the healthcare industry. Due to the poor health of his teeth, the dentist recommended he get all of them extracted. The reality of having to get all of his teeth pulled was definitely something Tom struggled with as would anyone in his position. Nevertheless, he came to our clinics a couple of times. His teeth were not salvageable and full of infection. He had a joint replacement so other than the first tooth that was extracted because it was full of pus, the dentist would not pull his teeth without his being on antibiotics even though his doctor did not feel it was necessary. His treatment was also delayed one visit when he had a slight stroke the evening before. Thankfully, he was finally able to get all of his teeth out followed by the new denture wearer package. This photo is his first set of dentures the HOME Foundation was able to assisted with. After one year, he will get a final set. He was able to customize the look of his dentures and expressed his gratitude for the dentist who made his dentures.
“I was in need of dental care and there was no possible way I would have been able to afford it without the help of the Senior Charity Care Foundation and the HOME Foundation. It truly improved my life. No one can go through life without having dental care. It was really wonderful to get my teeth taken care of and I am thankful that I got the opportunity to do so.”
